The Grandparents Project is a collection of stories and images from 70 contemporary artists that explore the special and enduring relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. While navigating the complex grief of losing our own beloved grandmothers in 2021 and 2022, we felt a pull to find a tangible and lasting way to honor them and their stories. We quickly realized that this particular grief was a universal experience shared by many of us, which led us to consider how we might invite artists to share their own experiences through art. It became clear that the most meaningful format this project could take was a book that could gather these stories together in one place.

This book aims to create a space to relate to one another and to explore the many roles grandparents have taken on within families. Filled with stories of resilience, strength, and warmth, it shares traditions and recollections lovingly passed down through time. With this project, our hope is to honor, cherish, and preserve the memories of our grandparents for generations to come.
