New beginnings
I’m moving Sofonisba Atelier to new rooms in Bekkestua, a bigger and brighter space, and a real new beginning. The atelier carries the name of Sofonisba Anguissola, one of the first women ever recognised as a painter, and I think of her often as I work.
Like always, I’ll paint in natural light, in long stretches of at least three hours. There will be books, records and photographs around me, and palo santo burning, a scent that carries me straight back to Ecuador. Some days my daughters come by, and their drawings find their way in among mine.
This is my happy place, where oil meets thread and memory becomes material. I have a feeling the new space is where a lot is about to happen, and when the doors open, you are warmly welcome to come and see it.
