Nostalgia y Fronteras

Nostalgia y Fronteras

This new series uses fine art in combination with traditional techniques associated with women’s work throughout history, which have been relegated as inferior. There is introspection in this series, cropped self-portraits create a narrative of the nostalgia I have felt of my home country of Ecuador, and also of the borders that I have crossed physically and mentally to get to where I am today, here in Norway.

There are so many physical borders I have crossed in my life, and for the last 4 years I have also crossed a very personal and intimate border that of navigating mental health challenges and getting to the better side. Through these difficult personal times, I found great therapy and support, and a beautiful creative journey that has also been an important part of my recovery.

My use of traditional techniques such as sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery have been therapeutic and they guide a shift in my practice together with the Self Motherhood Project. I am now expanding my art practice and I am embracing the joy I felt as a child when I work with these materials.
