Piel Canela

Piel canela which means “cinnamon skin.”

As I look at this painting, I can’t help but feel the warmth of the place, the scent of my great-aunt’s skin, the joy of being with her. My sister and a lovely great-aunt are depicted here, they are both incredibly important people in my life. Painting this brought back a memory of a place and moment that will forever hold a special place in my heart. Losing my connection to my place of birth, and not quite fitting-in within the places I later lived, my memories have become blurry and tangled. I cherish the moments that remain and sustain me with a sense of belonging.
